Arsenal vs. Fulham (Jan. 18, 2014)

"We are top of the league" was being sung all around the Emirates today and it was a joy to hear.  Another game down and another business like win for an Arsenal squad who just never gives up.  Santi Cazorla had his shooting boots on today when nobody else seemed willing to score.  His two goals were crucial in putting Fulham away late in the game.

As I said before, Santi was brilliant today.  His goals were much needed but even more impressive was his footwork.  The ball seems to be stuck to his feet when he was in possession, which caused the Fulham defenders problems throughout the game.  As usual the back line was brilliant even with they very little to do.  Ozil played well today but he still seems to be a bit off his world class pace that we are all used to seeing.  Lastly I liked what I saw from Gnabry all game even though the end result was very poor.  He wasn't afraid to take a shot whenever he found an opening, which is what more of the Arsenal players need to do.  On multiple occasions either Ozil or Wilshere had a chance to shoot but they looked for another give and go pass instead.  When Podolski came into the game late, he had two quick shots which were blocked and drilled off the post.  The more shots on target, the more goals Arsenal will score, it's as simple as that.

I really don't have much to complain about after this performance.  In the first half I was a bit worried because of the lackluster and slow start, but the result reversed my outlook.  I would still like to see Giroud do more in front of goal but I can't argue with his brilliant hold up play.  Overall the team played great together and are fun to watch when they play to perfection.

Arsenal's next game is against Coventry in the FA Cup.  I hope to see some of the younger players including Zelalem, Eisfeld or Sanogo (if healthy), but I also want to see a comfortable win by the Gooners.  Either way, it should be an easy win before another Premier League clash against Southampton.

Lastly I wanted to congratulate Wojciech Szczesny for a clean sheet on his 100th cap for Arsenal.  I plan to see many more clean sheets in the years to come.
